How To Hear God's Word Clearly

Have you ever wished God would speak to you directly to help you make a decision? Or do you possibly wonder why God doesn’t speak to you as He did to people in the Bible?
When you ask that question, one common response is that God no longer talks to people like He did during Biblical times.
To that response, my question is -- how can that be a true statement when the Word tells us that God is the SAME yesterday, today, and forever? We know God cannot lie. So we must believe that is a statement of truth; He has not changed and He still speaks to us today.
John 4:24 tells us that “God is a spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth.” How does this verse apply to these questions? John is showing us the line of communication between God and man.
God's Word Is The Truth

We know that God’s Word is the truth. When we pray the scriptures (the promises), we are praying God’s truth. He is communicating (speaking) to us THROUGH His Word.
Have you ever searched the scriptures for an answer to a particular dilemma in your life and one verse or passage seems to jump out at you? This is a quickening in our spirit which is like a light that is turned on.
Maybe we have read that same scripture 100 times but all of a sudden – it comes alive!
This is God’s Word communicating with your spirit. Sometimes it is so loud it seems audible. It comes with assurance and a knowing that God has spoken His truth to your heart.
The written Word is the Logos word, but when that becomes alive in our spirit, it is the Rhema Word. The definition of the Rhema Word is the Word spoken to our heart from the mouth of God.
If someone says God told them something but it does not line up with the written Word of God, then it is not from God.
When we learn how to turn off the voice in our minds so we can hear the voice of God in our spirit and His Word, they will confirm each other.
Hear From The Mouth of God

The Logos Word we hear with our physical ears when we read the Bible. The Rhema Word we hear with our spiritual ears can only be heard in our spirit. They will never contradict one another.
The Logos Word BECOMES the Rhema Word when we hear it with our hearts – that quickening in our spirit.
Your faith responds to what you hear from the mouth of God – the Rhema Word – not by what you see with your physical eyes.
Here is an example that will bring better understanding:
Matthew 19:26 says “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” This is the LOGOS Word. It is a general statement. We understand and accept that as truth. As we stand on that promise and thank God for it, we will see the fulfillment of it manifested in our lives.
Mark 9:23 makes it personal. Jesus said to him, “If you believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” This is the Rhema Word – spoken directly to YOU. When you thank God for that Word spoken to your heart from His Word and pray it back to Him as a prayer of thanksgiving, it grows.
When we take the promises and pray them as a prayer of thanksgiving they become alive in us. Instead of begging God to answer our prayer, we are proclaiming the promises He put in His Word for us. It becomes personal.
Pray The Answer

When we pray the answer instead of the problem and praise Him for that answer, it will change our Christian walk as we choose to believe what God spoke to our hearts. It excites us – knowing that God has promised and He will do as He has promised. Our prayers of petition turn into ones of praise.
But it is up to us to believe the Word of God that we are praying. When we believe it, it empowers us. We know WHO is behind the promise and we trust him without reservation.
I encourage you to find the scriptures you need for whatever you may be praying about – meditate on them, pray them back as praise, and thank God for His Word to your heart.
