Our Words Bring Blessing Or Curse
As long as we stay focused on the problem, that is where we will stay. When we see our situation as God sees it – that is when we will receive our miracle. God’s Word and your faith help us keep our eyes on God’s solution and His promises.
When Jesus saw the man with the withered hand, He didn’t just see the withered hand, He saw that there was more than enough grace for that hand to be made completely whole. Jesus said to the man, “Stretch out your hand!” The man did as told, and his hand was completely restored and made as whole as his other hand (Mark 3:1–5).
We need to develop that mindset which is the key to right believing. We replace negative thinking with right beliefs based on God’s Word.
Blessing Or Curse
Unless you ‘see’ the withered hand as healed, why would you ask the man to extend it? Jesus saw it whole. He sees us whole.
If you are trapped in guilt, fear, addiction, or sin, that is what you may be focusing on. God sees you healed, whole, and strong.
When you are struggling, go to God’s Word to find the answer. Then, take a stand against the problem by speaking the Word to it. Begin to thank God for His promise of healing or resolution. The more you praise Him for His promises, the sooner you will see the fulfillment of those promises.
See beyond the problem and see what God sees. “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness” 2 Corinthians 12:9.
The Power Of Words
You may not be able to stop the negative thoughts from coming – but you can turn them around to confess the Word over them.
Your words affect every area of your life. You have the choice to speak blessing or curse on yourself. Develop thoughts of peace and hope for your future.
“Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another - love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous, not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, blessing, knowing that you were called to this that you may inherit a blessing. For He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit” 1 Peter 3:8 – 10.
This verse refers to us as well. The tongue is such a small organ without skeletal support, yet it has a profound effect on our lives – our future.
“Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so, the tongue is a little member and boasts great things” James 3:4-5.
And in Proverbs, Solomon declares, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” Proverbs 18:21.
Speak Blessing Not Curse
We can speak blessing or cursing with our tongues. The original translation for ‘blessing’ is eulogeo. It is where our word eulogy comes from – when we speak well of someone who has died.
When we speak well of ourselves, we speak blessing. We are focusing on God’s promise and not the circumstance.
Speak well of your friends, coworkers, pastor, spouse, and children. You are blessing them when you speak words of restoration and healing over them.
Speak well of your relationship with God. Many people struggle with how God sees them and it can bring condemnation on themselves. But God sees you through the eyes of His Son Jesus. Declare God’s protection, favor, and righteousness over you and your loved ones.
“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. For it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree’ that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith” Galatians 2:13-14.
You Have Been Redeemed
Jesus took every imaginable disease upon His body on the cross so you do not need to suffer. Do you dare to believe that?
He redeemed us from every curse so that we can realize the blessing of Abraham. Deuteronomy 28 has a lengthy list of curses. If you look at the ones that cover sickness and disease, you will see that He took those curses for you.
Consumption – a disease of the lungs (Deuteronomy 28:22)
Boils, tumors, chronic itch (Deuteronomy 28:27)
Madness, panic, blindness (Deuteronomy 28:28)
Severe boils and cysts (Deuteronomy 28:35)
Prolonged plagues or serious illness (Deuteronomy 28:59)
You have been redeemed from every single one of these and if you think your disease is not listed here, it also states you are redeemed from every single disease of the world.
Jesus Christ bore the stripes of torment on His body to set you free from suffering. Every sickness and disease is part of the curse of the law and Christ has set us free from that. He became the curse for us.
Speak Words That Bless, Not Curse
The enemy knows your weak spots and he will try to plague your mind with negative thoughts and make you aware of symptoms to try to trick you.
Stand firm and speak healing scriptures over your body and allow the Holy Spirit to bring those words to your heart.
“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips” Psalm 141:3.
The opposite of speaking well over yourself is to curse yourself. Remember what Jesus said when He cursed the fig tree. He did not say, “I curse you, fig tree.” He simply said “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again” Mark 11:14.
Jesus did not use the word ‘curse.’ We need to become aware of the words that we speak. The negative words spoken can be the same as a curse. These are words of defeat, anger, bitterness, and complaint and they are toxic – both to us and those around us. Flush them out! In their place speak words of victory, grace, love, and power.
When Jesus spoke to the fig tree it did not wither away instantly. This is because it first dried up at its roots before death reached the leaves. Don’t be discouraged when you speak and nothing happens. Trust God and His Word that the outward manifestation of your faith is on its way.
Catch yourself. When you start to speak words of negativity, switch gears and speak words of blessing and God’s Word. Thank God that His Word is yes and amen and proclaim the Blood, the Name of Jesus, and the Word over your life – the BNW!
Declare what the Word says – that no plague, no death, no punishment, no harm, no danger, no evil can come near our dwelling because the full payment for our sins has already been made by our precious Lord Jesus.
