How do you determine if a message you hear, a book you read, or a prayer is anointed? Why is it important to know?
Have you been in a church service and heard a message that is contrary to the Word of God? Yet, you may hear people proclaim what a wonderful, anointed message it was. What is the anointing based on? Feeling? If you leave the church and feel good, does that mean it was anointed? Of course not. You could listen to any type of motivational speech and feel inspired. But that is not the anointing.
Why is it important to ascertain the difference between the two? It is significant because we need to know what we are hearing and applying to our lives is from the Word of God.
A Litmus Test...
There is a litmus test you can administer to determine if the lesson was anointed. God cannot anoint a lie. Impossible. He does not anoint half-truths. He does not anoint a word spoken out of context with His Word. He cannot contradict the Word for the Word must confirm the Word.
Hence, it is important to know the Word which sets you free from doubt, confusion, and anxiety and will NEVER make you feel guilty. The enemy is the father of guilt, and it is what he wants you to feel.
It may be easier to understand the anointing by knowing what it is NOT.
If you leave a church service, or watch a YouTube video, etc,, and feel guilty it cannot be anointed by God. He will never put guilt on you.
What is the focus of the message? Many ‘new’ teachings focus on YOU. Not on the Word. Not on God – but on self. How often do you hear these words – self-care, self-help, self-awareness, or self-glorification?
Self-awareness has its roots in ancient philosophy that denies God and His supremacy in our lives.
Dangers Of Personality Quiz
There is a temptation to identify ourselves as an introvert or extrovert, melancholy or joyful, judging or perceiving. There is a desire to know if we are the reformer, the helper, the achiever, the individualist, the investigator, the loyalist, the enthusiast, the challenger, or the peacemaker.
One of the biggest problems with this method of understanding yourself is that it limits you and limits God as to how He will use you.
When you have the Word in your heart and an understanding of the authority of God behind it, you realize that you are in the arena of faith. The Word builds your faith. It may force you to exit your comfort zone and step out in faith.
The Rhema Word
Every miracle I witnessed was a result of stepping out of my comfort zone and praying for someone I felt unqualified to pray for. God honored my faith and His Word. If I were limited by my personality type – I doubt if I would have seen them, and I would not have moved out in faith to pray. I would have felt inadequate.
Personality testing is based on the Enneagram which is a theory based on ancient Egyptian philosophies and three occultists who have ZERO scientific evidence. It is like reading your horoscope based solely on lies.
When you hear the word that lifts the name of Jesus and who He is, it draws you to your Heavenly Father. And when that word is quickened in your hearts, there is no question of where it is coming from – it is the Rhema Word of God spoken from God’s Word to your heart. With the anointed Word in our hearts and an understanding of the authority of God behind it, we will realize that we are in the arena of faith. The Bible tells us to be instant in season and out of season – to be ready to obey God when He asks you to do something you may not be comfortable with.
Yet, these ungodly practices have crept into the church trying to create adrenaline-charged atmospheres to substitute the anointing. The Bible calls it having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof. (2 Timothy 3:5-7)
Churches have become fascinated by New Age doctrines, practice energy healing, and even go as far as obsessing over preachers of the past by visiting their graves in hopes of obtaining that anointing. They engage in necromancy and pray for the mantles of these ‘healers’ to be transferred to them.
An Occultic Root
Some churches Christianize yoga, meditation, centering, and other Eastern religious activities.
It is because our godliness is void of power and has created a vacuum that demands something for which we determined God, the Bible, and the Holy Spirit are simply not enough.
“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself” Philippians 2:3.
Psalm 1 warns us not to seek the counsel of the ungodly – which includes the practices explained here.
Personalities tests rooted in occultic and New Age origins which attribute our identity and awareness of who we are can lead to a new-found identity to determine our direction and it is dangerous.
The Dangers Of Personality Tests
The BOTTOM LINE – faith is no longer taught that it is required or a prerequisite to receiving a miracle. The Bible tells us that without faith, it is impossible to please Him.
Be careful what you listen to – test it against the Word of God and if it does not measure up – STOP listening to it.
The power is not there. The anointing is not there. Sadly, they are ever learning but never able to come to full knowledge of the truth.
