Top 10 Excuses Of All Time

top 10 excuses

Excuses can be a major part of our vocabulary.  How easy it can be to use an excuse for not doing something but…..can you handle the guilt?

I believe most of these top 10 excuses are feeble. Here are some of my favorites. And I hope you see the humor in them as you may look at yourself:

Top 10 Excuses - Sounds Familiar? 🙂

10. I don't have time.

i dont have time

Each of us has the same amount of time on any given day. It is up to us to use it wisely or choose to waste it.

9. I forgot.

i forgot

A day timer, calendar, alarm on your phone, message to self are tools that help you keep track. Making a list of every job no matter how minuscule can save blocks of time. As soon as a job comes up, put it on your list(s). When complete, cross it off and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment.

8. I was interrupted.

i was interrupted

You can learn how to say no to something lower on the priority list by balancing big jobs with smaller ones that don't require as much brainpower.

If an emergency happens, be thankful you are organized so that it does not unnerve you.

If the phone rings and it is a friend who wants to chat, send a quick text saying I will call later.

Set boundaries with your family or friends and they will respect your work time.

7. I don't know how.

Can you read? Do you know how to Google an answer or better yet, ask for help?

6. I'm too busy.

i am too busy

I love this one because it usually follows with a full explanation which is merely a longer list of excuses.

People who use this excuse usually spend more time explaining why they are too busy to do a job than it would take to finish it -  a terrific time waster when you don't want to do something.

5. I have more important things to do.

Then why did you take on the job in the first place?

4. I changed my mind.

i changed my mind

Do you have a problem with commitment?

3. I got sick.

That might slow you down but that does not mean you can't finish the job later.

2. I had car trouble.

This one always works - no one can prove otherwise. And the best excuse I have ever heard is......

1. I'm afraid of failure.

afraid of failure

If you don't try, you will never know if you can do it or not. If you fail, so what? Try, try again. You can't be a victor without a battle!

I ask you....what is the best excuse you have heard or the best one you have ever given?

  • Thanks, Carol. I think I’m fair at squashing most of these, and even squashed, they still ting through some days. 🙂 Some of my mantras: I don’t have time, I make time. Time is magic. And, of course, fail better, then fail better again.
