Know the Truth - And Be Set Free
Where in the Bible do you find the perception that you shall have the truth and the truth shall set you free? Read that question again and then see if you can find that in the Bible. You will not.
All Christians have the truth so why are so many in bondage? That does not compute, does it?
“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” John 8:32. There is a colossal difference between ‘having’ the truth and ‘knowing’ the truth.
Throughout the Bible, God is defined as truth. In John 14:6 Jesus said that He is the way, the TRUTH, and the life. God’s Holy Spirit dwells in our spirit and He is all truth. We all have it – but do we know it?
What does it mean to ‘know’? You have to know it before you realize the freedom that it brings. The definition of the word ‘know’ is to grasp with clarity or certainty and to regard it as true beyond doubt.
For as long as I can remember I have heard Christians say things like:
- I know God can heal but…
- I know God healed in Bible times, but I am not sure about today
- God is sovereign and He blesses those He wants to bless
- I cannot expect God to answer my prayers when there is sin in my life
None of these statements are confirmed in the Word. Each one is something that the enemy would love to have you believe.
Knowing The Truth
When we choose to believe what the Word of God is telling us in any situation we are in, it is not only a matter of repeating those scriptures but getting the Rhema Word into our hearts. We need to ‘know’ it in our ‘knower;’ our spirit.
This is how we KNOW the truth. It becomes part of us. There is no doubt or concern.
When I was told I had two years to live unless I had a hysterectomy, I knew that was not the truth. I also knew that God’s Word promised me healing and abundant life. I refused the recommendation from the cancer specialist and chose to stand on God’s Word instead.
Angrily the doctor told me to “then, go home lady, suffer and die.”
I stood up and in a staccato-type voice said, “I will walk in here pregnant one day.”
When we KNOW the truth, we can DARE to BELIEVE the truth.
It is not merely saying the scriptures, it is meditating on them, praying them in a prayer of thanksgiving to God, and trusting them against all odds. This is when all doubt and fear will leave.
It Is In Your Spirit
This Word that is in your spirit will spring up whenever disbelief tries to steal it from you. It is knowing the truth that brings freedom to every area of our lives.
When you pray the praying of thanksgiving back to your Heavenly Father, you are praying the promises He has given you in His Word.
We may pray something like this:
“Heavenly Father, I thank you for Your Word and the promises You have given me. I thank You that Your Word is yes and amen. I thank You that You died on the cross and took my sins, my shame, my guilt, my sicknesses, my fears, and my doubts. I thank You that You have promised me abundant life. I thank You that You have given me this promise (insert your scripture) and I choose to believe it. I thank You for Your provision in my life. I thank You that You cannot lie, and I trust You that You will perform what You have promised………. provision for me and my family, whether it is healing, finances, relationships, or restoration with family, or whatever it is.”
Knowing God’s Word sets you free. When you stand on His promises, your faith builds. When you have that Word in your spirit, it will spring up when you need it.
This is how we pray the answer, instead of the problem. We are not begging God but rather, we are thanking Him. You cannot help but burst into praise when you are in this mindset.
God’s promises are part of your inheritance – your God-given inheritance He promised you in His Word.
Your mission is to believe it, stand on it when the going gets tough, and thank God for it.
The flip side is if you do not KNOW the truth and believe it in your heart, the enemy knows you do not know it. Do not play into his arena of fear but stay in God’s arena of truth.
The devil loves to plant doubt and when that happens you can praise God that His Word supersedes any negative thoughts.
